£2.7m to be spent on road markings

A £2.7 million scheme to replace road markings and studs on four key roads in the north east has started.

Overnight work will take place on sections of the A1(M) from Barton in North Yorkshire to Carrville in County Durham; the A1 from Morpeth to Denton Burn in Newcastle, the A19 from Howdon Interchange to Seaton Burn and the A696 Prestwick Roundabout to Kenton Bar.

The four schemes will see the removal and reinstatement of existing white road markings in both directions as well as the replacement of road studs where required. The eastbound carriage of the A696 will only be affected.

Highways Agency project manager Chris Corcoran said: “Safety is our top priority and these four schemes will ensure drivers have increased visibility on our road network.”
