Capita has been awarded a £4 million contract with Highways England to replace its asset management system for roadside technology maintenance teams.

Working in collaboration with Mott MacDonald the company will also provide associated consultancy services and continued operation of its traffic management central logging and information services.

Supported by Capita's asset management platform OPENAssets, Highways England will benefit from a fully hosted solution which will enhance existing systems with the introduction of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) capability, supporting Apple IOS, Google Android and Windows Mobile 8.1.

Mott MacDonald's transport technology services team will continue to support the HALOGEN central logging system and the new Capita asset management platform.

Simon Reeves, director of Capita Technology, part of Capita’s property and infrastructure business, said: "By enhancing and modernising the asset management system and introducing BYOD, Capita will support Highways England's goal of improving efficiency and service.

"We will be working closely with Highways England to ensure the move to bring your own device is introduced as seamlessly as possible, and helps make managing the technology estate more effective and more flexible for its technology maintenance teams."

Nabil Abou-Rahme, Mott MacDonald's director of transport technology, added: "We are pleased to be working with Capita to bring this next generation evolution of asset management and information services to Highways England and their stakeholders.

"HALOGEN securely captures over 25 million operational asset records each month recording fault, status and device setting activity, making this information available to a wide range of stakeholders via specific data reports and analysis tools."

Janet Foreman, ICT senior project manager at Highways England, said: "SDS Lite will go a long way towards upgrading, simplifying, and improving systems which had developed independently of each other and which did not provide a full suite of fault management tools."
