Carillion wins £126m job to speed-up M6

Carillion has been chosen to carry out £126m of work to transform a section of the M6 in Birmingham to a managed motorway.





Advance works are due to start at the end of this month to allow the main job between Junctions 5 and 8 to get underway by June.

Subject to the completion of the statutory process, contract completion is scheduled for 2014-15.

Carillion chief executive, Richard Howson, said: “We are delighted to have been chosen to work with the Highways Agency as its delivery partner for this latest managed motorway contract, which further reinforces Carillion’s position as one of the leading suppliers for the Agency’s managed motorway programme.”

Carillion is one of the Highways Agency’s four delivery partners for the managed motorway national framework.

This project is phase three in a programme of work to deliver managed motorways to the M6.

The new running system is already in place between junctions 4 and 5, and junctions 8 and 10A - meaning that once completed in 2014-15, road users will benefit from smoother, more reliable journeys along a 20-mile stretch of the M6.
