Chevron to provide traffic management on smart motorway project

Chevron will provide traffic management on the M60 and M62 smart motorway project after winning a contract worth £6.6 million over the next two years.

The £208 million Highways Agency project will see a 17-mile stretch of the network between junction 8 of the M60 near Sale and junction 20 of the M62 near Rochdale upgraded to a smart motorway – the first of its kind in the north west. The project, which will be managed from Chevron’s Rochdale depot, is the largest individual scheme ever to be awarded to the company and will see a traffic management value of £6.6m over the next two years.

General manager Andy Hicks said: “Chevron is proud to be given the opportunity to deliver the traffic management on this prestigious scheme. We continue to be heavily involved with the improvement to health and safety within the traffic management industry; the outcomes of which lead to schemes such as Manchester smart motorways being delivered with zero carriageway crossings undertaken by our team.”

The project is being carried out by Balfour Beatty in partnership with Costain, Carillion, BAM Morgan Sindall and once completed; the smart motorway will tackle the congestion and unpredictable journey times that users of the M60 and M62 experience every day.
