Council receives £2.45m for Canvey road blunders

Essex County Council has reached a £2.45 million settlement with Mouchel after design blunders caused delays to a major road project in Canvey.

The international infrastructure and business services group was appointed as part of the project to extend Roscommon Way, but its original design for the road foundation was found to be “insufficient”.

The council’s cabinet member for highways and transportation Rodney Bass said: “Some way through the Roscommon Way road works, we found this company’s original design for the road foundation was insufficient.

“This meant new plans had to be put forward and work had to be redone. Because of the extra money that had to be spent by Essex County Council as a result, we successfully claimed compensation.

“We are determined to get the best deal for the taxpayers of Essex in every project we undertake.”

The settlement with the council was reached out of court.
