Driver killed in lamp post collision

A driver has died after colliding with a lamp post in Blackpool last week.

Police were called after a blue MG Convertible collided with a lamp post on South Promenade just south of the Solaris Centre.

Emergency services attended but the 26 year old male driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sergeant John Jennings-Wharton from the Road Policing Unit said: “We are trying to establish the circumstances surrounding this collision and so I would appeal to anyone that has any information that might help to come forward.

“At the time, the car was travelling southbound along South Promenade and we are investigating the possibility that the car had travelled in to Blackpool from the Lytham area.

"As a result, I would also appeal specifically to anyone who thinks they may have seen this car prior to the collision anywhere between Lytham and Blackpool to contact us.”
