FM Conway sets out net zero ambition for 2045

04/11/2021
Dominic Browne

FM Conway has released a net zero strategy that sets out a roadmap to 2045, with ambitious targets including zero waste to landfill and phasing out single-use plastics.

The strategy outlines key areas for investment and continuous improvement to help achieve net zero ahead of the UK Government’s deadline of 2050. These are:

  • energy management
  • plant and transport
  • natural capital investment
  • waste management
  • material resource efficiency

As part of its action plan, FM Conway will introduce a comprehensive carbon strategy, as well as develop science-based targets for informing and measuring carbon reduction KPIs.

It also has the target of zero waste to landfill for all waste streams, the phasing out of single-use plastic, the implementation of small-scale biodiversity projects and identifying credible carbon offset options.

Through this 'structured mechanism for change, review and innovation' FM Conway aims to deliver carbon savings for both its own business and its clients', building on the major achievements it has already delivered in terms of materials recycling.

CEO Adam Green said: 'For over 30 years of our 60 years trading, FM Conway has pioneered sustainable construction activities that have ultimately led to a reduction in carbon. Our business has invested in sustainable infrastructure and is leading the way in the use of low carbon recycled asphalt materials.

'Our Net Zero Strategy is the result of a structured and considered approach of how we can realistically reduce carbon within our business. I am delighted that we are now able to launch this strategy and look forward to working with our clients and partners on the journey to net zero.'

The strategy outlines the following central ambitions:
