HMEP receives £500,000 funding boost

The government will help the Highways Maintenance Efficiency Programme (HMEP) complete its ‘move to self-sufficiency’ by providing a funding boost of £500,000 next year.

HMEP is a £6million, Department for Transport funded and sector led transformation programme. It connects networks from across the highways sector and provides the tools and resources to ignite ideas and help leaders and managers to transform delivery of roads and services through greater efficiencies.

The HMEP board met on 31 July and looked at progress on delivering against the themes in its annual plan published in December 2013, as well as ensuring the initiative is moving successfully to a sustainable basis.

Programme manager Haydn Davies said: “Some modest additional funding was made available from DfT for 2014/15 that will better allow HMEP to meet the Nation Audit Office’s recent suggestion that we better target assistance, whilst £0.5m was earmarked for 2015/16 to complete the move to self-sufficiency. “
