Saint-Gobain Weber has developed a new product that specialist contractors can use for both repairs and finishing on concrete structures.
The firm said webercem R4 duo, a two-in-one R4 repair mortar and R3 fairing coat can be used to remediate cracking, delamination and spalling, depending on the volume of water used in the mix.
It said the product is ideal for structural concrete repairs, particularly where high, overhead repairs are required, and can be built up to a 75mm thickness for both vertical and overhead repairs in just one application when used as an R4 mortar, while its levelling properties make it easier to achieve a smooth finish.
Saint-Gobain Weber said that larger repairs can often require a poured or sprayed repair material, while smaller repairs can be remedied using hand-applied mortars, but even smaller patch repairs can involve a two-part process, applying a separate mortar repair product, then finishing with a fairing coat.
It added that using multiple products to fix just one area, presents contractors with a range of logistical challenges, such as lack of space on site and complicated product mixing, on top of the already highly technical nature of concrete.
Technical sales consultant Paul Rigby said: ‘We’re seeing webercem R4 duo being used on bridges and in coastal environments. It is ideal for projects where a very easy, quick repair to concrete is required and where storage space is at a premium.
‘Weber’s test data shows that when used as a fairing coat, 3mm of webercem R4 duo offers as much protection against CO2 as 30mm of low permeability concrete or 300mm high permeable concrete, helping to ensure long-term, durable repairs with a minimum of product used.'
Weber said webercem R4 duo complies with BS EN 1504-3 as an R4 mortar or R3 fairing coat.
