It is with great sadness that Highways reports the death of Mike Elwell, head of sales at Dynniq UK and Ireland.
Mr Elwell died last month in a tragic accident while on holiday with his family and is mourned right across the sector as one of its leading figures.
He worked in the local authority arena before joining Peek Traffic and subsequently Dynniq, where he ran the North West Urban business stream and helped to win the company’s original National Roads Telecommunication Services commission before heading up the national sales team.
The family have asked for donations to go to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) on behalf of Mike Elwell. Should you wish to donate please visit: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/mikeelwellrnli
Friends and colleagues of Mr Elwell have described him as a man who was universally loved.
One colleague said: ‘He never had a bad word to say about anyone and no one had a bad word to say about him.’ His friend and colleague at Dynniq, Gary Littledyke, said: ‘We are all in shock. He was so full of life. Every weekend he would be up to some activity, or going out somewhere with the family. He made a huge impact on everyone who met him.’
Colleagues added he was always engaging and had a wide range of musical, sporting and social interests, befitting a man who always tried to get the best out of life.
Jess Gallagher of the Institution of Lighting Professionals (ILP), of which Mr Elwell was a member, said: ‘Mike was a very enthusiastic and well-respected supporter of the ILP. He made time to contribute to the lighting profession as a regional member, technical panel member and also shared his expertise at national events. Mike was unfailingly positive, and had a keen and encouraging attitude. The Institution will feel his loss for a long time to come and we send our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.’
