Jail threat after speed camera set on fire

Highways Reporters

A lorry driver and his neighbour face jail after setting fire to a speed camera in Lincolnshire to avoid prosecution.

Anthony Luty, 28, from Harlington, near Doncaster, was caught doing 49 mph in his HGV on the A631 at Hemswell Cliff in October 2011.

Luty then asked his neighbour Ashley Rowland, 23, to go back the next day and set fire to the camera.

Both men admitted arson and were bailed to be sentenced at a later date.

The BBC reported that Judge Sean Morris told the pair at Lincoln Crown Court that a custodial sentence was "inevitable".

The court also heard that police had removed the film before the fire - "making the blaze pointless".
