Amey to start new £6m Scottish traffic deal in October

Amey has been awarded a £6m contract by Transport Scotland to provide traffic technology on major roads across the country.

The Traffic Scotland Operations and Infrastructure Service contract will run over six years and will see Amey improve information and journey time reliability for all road users.

The contract will see Amey manage and improve the technology on the whole of Scotland’s major road network. A key part of this will be the 24/7 operation of the new purpose built Traffic Scotland Control Centre at the Forth Road Bridge.

The centre will distribute accurate and timely information about incidents that occur on the roads, giving road users the chance to decide how best to use the trunk roads on that day.

Amey has been Transport Scotland’s ITS (intelligent transport system) equipment maintenance provider since December 2004.

The new wider contract starts in October and has the option of two, one-year extensions.

The contract will also include operating and maintaining almost 500 overhead lane control signals, and over 789 emergency road side phones.
