Hunt starts for Welsh maintenance firms

Cyngor Gwynedd Council has started the search for highways maintenance contractors to cover Mid and North Wales.

The Welsh Government decided to merge the two once separate regions into a single 3-year framework in the hope of greater cost savings from April next year.

The contractor framework will be operated by the newly-named body, the North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agency.

Wales’ southern region will continue as a separate framework deal under existing arrangements.

Although the framework includes a major project element for four firms, the vast majority of the £15m spent annually on planned and emergency work will be let through small works packages for a panel of contractors ranging from four to eight firms.

The framework will involve civil, highways, and structures engineering for new highway construction works, improvement works and maintenance renewals.
