Mike Jones has been appointed major projects manager at Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK.

His first responsibility in the newly created role will be to oversee the development of the A487 Caernarfon and Bontnewydd Bypass.

One of four chartered engineers at Jones Bros, Jones has more than 25 years’ experience in the design and build of highways schemes.

Projects he has contributed towards include the A477 St Clears to Red Roses Improvement in South West Wales, the Mersey Gateway, and the A494 Drome Corner to Ewloe in North Wales.

Jones said: “When I heard the plans that John Dielhof, (managing director) and Huw Jones, (chairman) had to increase its operations in highways and the way I’ve seen Jones Bros progress in recent years, it added up to an irresistible opportunity.

“It’s satisfying to see an infrastructure project that you’ve designed and built come to fruition and provide a tangible asset to local residents.

“Five years ago I worked on the design of the Mersey Gateway, which is now just being built. It’s great to see a project go from concept to design, construction and operation. I’m looking forward to seeing Jones Bros projects go through the same process.”

Prior to joining Jones Bros Mike was a director with Peter Brett Associates, with responsibility for civil engineering in the North West and Wales. Before that he was managing director of Martin Wright Associates, with full responsibility for the performance of the company.

Mike previously worked as a technical director with Ramboll (formerly Gifford) where he was design project manager and expert witness at public inquiry on both the Mersey Gateway and A477 St Clears to Red Roses Improvement projects, as well as being framework manager on the North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agency Consultancy Framework.

Jones Bros managing director John Dielhof said: “Mike has an impressive track record of leading on multi-million pound projects. We are particularly impressed with the balance he has achieved between private practice and local government experience in his career. We believe that highways will play a significant part of our programme of work over the coming years, and Mike’s experience and knowledge of the sector will be invaluable.

“We are confident that he will prove to be a huge asset to the company, particularly as we embark on such a major scheme as the A487 Caernarfon and Bontnewydd bypass."
