M1 resurfacing starts this month

Highways Reporters

A £214,000 Highways Agency resurfacing project along the southbound M1 around Sheffield in South Yorkshire will get underway at the end of the month.

The project starts on Monday 30 April and will be completed by Saturday 5 May. It involves resurfacing the entry slip road onto the southbound M1 at Junction 35 at Sheffield as well as all three lanes along the southbound carriageway for about a mile south of the junction.

All the work will be taking place overnight between 8pm and 6am each night. While the main carriageway will remain open at all times it will be reduced to one lane - sometimes with traffic using the hard shoulder as a running lane.

Highways Agency project sponsor Tim Calvert said, “Large areas of the carriageway are showing significant wear and tear and resurfacing the slip road and all three lanes will enable us to effect a long-term solution and avoid the need for localised and sporadic repairs."
