Leeds City Council has awarded Mouchel a contract extension that will see the company deliver highways and transportation services on behalf of the local authority until August 2018.

Mouchel, recently acquired by WSP|Parsons Brinckerhoff, has worked with the council since 2003. Mouchel will continue to provide the council with a range of services across highways, structures, transport planning, urban design and environmental factors from inception, to feasibility and design, to construction.

The Leeds team, alongside colleagues from the wider business, supports Leeds City Council in the delivery of high profile schemes such as its city centre strategy, Leeds Bradford Airport and the East Leeds orbital road.

The firm’s most recent completed project for Leeds City Council has been the Cycle Superhighway from East Leeds to Bradford Centre, the UK’s first attempt to develop a separate, long-distance cycle route. Transport specialists worked with colleagues from Leeds City Council and Bradford Council to develop new design solutions, including signalled junctions and bus stops, to create increased levels of priority and safety compared to conventional on-road cycle routes.

James Woodhead, commission director for the Leeds/Mouchel Partnership, said: “Having worked on this contract for 13 years, our team has built a strong relationship with Leeds City Council and we’re pleased that this alongside our commitment to service quality has been recognised with a further extension to our contract. We’re looking forward to continuing our work to help the council deliver excellence to the people of Leeds.”

Gary Bartlett, chief officer, highways and transportation, Leeds City Council, said: "We are delighted to extend the current contract to 31 August 2018. We currently have a very full programme of works from major new transport schemes through to an extensive maintenance programme related to our existing infrastructure. Over the last 13 years, Mouchel has provided excellent support to deliver our increasing work programmes and I have no doubt that will continue for the remainder of the contract period. We look forward to continuing our close working over the next two years."
