Summer start for Amey in Staffordshire

Amey will start on a £500,000 project to improve the roundabouts at the A38 junction at Barton Turns in Burton this summer.

The Staffordshire County Council scheme comprises the resurfacing of three roundabouts and approaching roads.

Mark Deaville, Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways at Staffordshire County Council explained that the investment was great news for everyone who regularly uses the junction.

Mark said: “Good highways are key to helping keep the county safely on the move and essential for our economy to grow and we work hard to keep our 6,000km of roads maintained.

“Our highways crews will be making repairs to some of the deeper potholes over the next few months in preparation for the resurfacing and our inspection teams will continue to prioritise any repairs as required. With projects of this scale there will usually be some inconvenience to the travelling public and while we will do our best to minimise these we would ask for people’s cooperation when the work is being carried out.”

The scheme will take up to a month to complete and most work will be undertaken at night to keep disruption to businesses and the travelling public to a minimum.

Some temporary closures of the A38 slip roads will also be required while the work is carried out. The work does require dry weather and has been scheduled in for the summer. Advance signs will also be displayed shortly advising motorists about the works.

The junction is also frequently used by HGV’s serving the nearby Graycar and Barton business parks and it is expected that the resurfacing will help prolong the life of the road.
