Highways crews clean-up after storms
Highways crews across the country were involved in a massive clean-up operation this week after heavy rain and high winds battered the country.
Typical of the efforts of highways teams was the crew in Staffordshire where a 70 strong team helped to clear up the debris.
The Staffordshire highways depot was inundated with more than 100 calls from residents and motorists reporting damage earlier this week as dozens of trees were blown down,
County Councillor Mike Maryon, Cabinet member for Highways and Transport, said: “The highways team was on red alert over the weekend, ready to clear any fallen trees and tackle localised flooding.
“They did an excellent job of making the roads as safe as possible in some very challenging conditions.
"They are continuing the clean up operationand are on call around the clock so that they can respond rapidly to reports of fallen trees or debris on the carriageway."
