Medway Council has issued a pipeline notice for a £132m highways infrastructure term maintenance contract.

Running from 1 August 2027 to 31 July 2034, the seven-year contract allows for a possible extension to 31 July 2037, bringing the total run-time to a potential 10 years.

During this period, the supplier will be expected to help manage and maintain 845km of adopted highway, roughly 1,100km of adopted footway, 27,007 streetlights, 406 bridges and retaining walls, the Medway Tunnel and approximately 91,000 other highway assets.

With the current contract with VolkerHighways expected to expire on 31 July 2026, after commencing nine years ago in August 2017, Medway said it is look to set up a ‘successor contract'.

The council said it plans to host an open virtual Market Engagement Workshop between 13–19 April this year, during which potential suppliers can gain some background information, an overview of the current contract, network profile and key assets, and a summary of the contract options.
