We operate more than 50 quarries, nearly 30 quality-assured asphalt plants, around 60 ready-mixed concrete & mortar plants and three concrete block plants across England, Wales and Scotland, employing more than 1,300 people.

We produce a wide range of standard surfacing materials compliant with European standard EN13108, together with a number of proprietary asphalts that we believe perform better than the European Standard. We can supply all sizes of contract from motorways and trunk roads to driveways, footpaths and farm roads.Our surfacing & contracting business is one of the longest established in the UK and is grouped around seven regional hubs.
Our English surfacing contracting business operates from two regional hubs and undertakes minor road surfacing projects as well as major infrastructure contracts, serving an area from the east coast to mid-Wales and from the M62 corridor to the South Midlands.
Our Scottish surfacing contracting business operates from five regional hubs, serving most of northern, western and eastern Scotland. Our associate company BEAR Scotland manages the north-east and north-west trunk road networks on behalf of Transport Scotland, and our majority-owned company Alba Traffic Management is the leading provider of traffic management solutions throughout Scotland.
Working in partnership with specifiers, councils, public bodies and local authorities, our skilled surfacing contracting teams offer a full turnkey preparation and laying service for all 'in-house' products, extending to day-to-day highway maintenance where required.
We hold all relevant accreditations and registrations, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, Constructionline, CHAS, Safecontractor and National Highways Sector Schemes 13a, 14 and 16. All our surfacing contracting staff are NRSWA-trained and hold NVQ Levels 2-4 in a surfacing-related discipline, together with CSCS and CPCS.
