Daniels replaces Gooding as CILT president

03/01/2023 | DOMINIC BROWNE

Chair of the Highways Sector Council, Leon Daniels OBE, has become the 2023 president of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in the UK (CILT).

Mr Daniels (pictured) takes over from outgoing president and fellow highways grandee, Steve Gooding.

Mr Daniels has been CILT vice-president for three years and has had a prestigious career including working as managing director for surface transport at Transport for London (TfL) for seven years. During this time, he oversaw the delivery of the transport for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

He has also worked in public transportation in the UK, Hong Kong and the USA.

After retiring from TfL in 2017, he now advises governments and organisations in the fields of artificial intelligence, public affairs and technology.

Mr Daniels said: 'It’s such a fantastic honour to be named as president of CILT (UK) for 2023. As a member of CILT for nearly 30 years, I recognise the importance of an active professional community for those working in the disciplines of logistics and transport and it is a huge privilege to serve as its president.

'As a professional body, we have a responsibility to develop our profession and our members, and I look forward to working with the board of directors and vice-presidents to promote CILT and support members in their career aspirations.'

Sharon Kindleysides, chief executive at CILT (UK), said: 'Leon is a globally recognised expert in transport and logistics, and I am delighted to welcome him as the new President of CILT (UK). I am personally looking forward to working with him closely as we continue to grow in 2023 and beyond and support the profession in developing the Future Capabilities it needs.

'I would also like to thank outgoing President Steve Gooding for a successful two years as CILT (UK)’s president and the friendship and support he has shown me. Steve has played a crucial role in the development of the Institute through the challenges of the past two years, and we look forward to continuing to benefit from his support in driving the Institute forward in his continued role as vice-president.'

Mr Daniels' one-year presidency began on 1 January 2023.

The CILT is the membership organisation for professionals leading supply chain operations for the movement of goods and people.
