New project manager for McCann

27/09/2016 | HIGHWAYS REPORTERS

Leading construction firm McCann has appointed Andy Cunnington as project manager to work on the M1 smart motorway upgrade.

Cunnington (pictured), joins Chilwell-based McCann from Balfour Beatty, where he’d worked for two years as operations manager. Prior to that, he spent five years at Bouyguess Energies and Services, where he took a lead role in project managing the M25 and M4/M5 ‘smart’ motorways - whereby the hard shoulder is used by vehicles as a running lane and the flow of traffic is controlled by variable speed limits.

For McCann, Cunnington will be project managing the new M1 ALR (all lane running) smart motorway section between junctions 16 to 19. Responsible for health and safety, production, client liaison, planning and building relationships for future works, he is keen to put his skills and experience to the test once the project gets fully underway in October.

He said: “Smart motorway schemes have often proved challenging to implement, but with McCann’s excellent team, health and safety standards and meticulous processes in place, I know we’ll be delivering this flagship scheme on time and on budget for Highways England.

Cunnington joins the team at a successful period for McCann, and is the latest in a number of recent appointments as the company focuses on delivering major projects for Highways England and local councils across the UK.

“Andy is yet another excellent new member of our team,” adds managing director John McCann. “His passion and enthusiasm for his role is matched by his excellent record in managing and delivering large-scale, complex projects. I know he’ll put his all into our latest contract with Highways England and I look forward to seeing the scheme develop.”
