Transport consultancy Agilysis has launched a free, interactive tool that provides road authorities and local police services with a first look at six safety performance indicators (SPIs) measured against the Department for Transport's (DfT) new 65% casualty-reduction target.

The dashboard covers England, Scotland and Wales and all 207 highway authorities and 43 police force areas beneath them, across six of the 17 national SPIs.

Every figure is compared to the 2014 to 2019 pre-pandemic average, the DfT's official 2022 to 2024 baseline, and the latest 2025 year. This provides users with context alongside the number, as opposed to a single stat that requires separate lookups elsewhere.

Agilysis has built the current version on 2025 boundaries, the most recent confirmed geography, rather than estimating, to accommodate the highways authorities currently going through Local Government Reorganisation. That means an authority mid-way through this process can still see exactly where it stands today.

The company has plans for two future updates to the platform once boundaries are confirmed, so that the newly formed authorities can see the combined data from their predecessors. As the DfT grants approval for the remaining 11 national SPIs not yet included, Agilysis plans to add them to the dashboard, along with statistical significance testing to help flag which year-on-year movements in an area's figures are likely to ‘reflect a genuine change rather than ordinary fluctuations in a small count'.

Richard Owen, chief executive officer at Agilysis, said: ‘This is the first year we can actually measure locally against the targets in the new strategy, so it's important that we get an accurate measure. The only complication is LGR, but once that is settled, we'll include new authorities in an update later this year. We built this dashboard to make data more accessible to those who run our road networks, making it free and in one place, rather than leaving it buried in a national spreadsheet.'

Tanya Fosdick, chief operating officer at Agilysis, added: ‘A single year of casualty data, especially for smaller counts, will always move around more than the underlying safety of the network. We've built the dashboard to show every indicator against the longer pre-pandemic average as well as the baseline, so users can see that context rather than reading one number in isolation. We'd genuinely welcome authorities and forces telling us what would make it more useful to them.'
