WSP has been re-appointed to continue providing West Sussex County Council's highways, transport and planning consultancy services for a further five years, extending the current partnership that started in 2022.

Under the renewed agreement, WSP is expected to continue providing professional services across highways, transport and planning. The company will be responsible for supporting West Sussex County Council with scheme development, technical advice, programme delivery, asset management and ‘wider consultancy services'.

The current contract - originally valued at £33.25m for the initial five-year term - is set to expire on 2 May 2027, but the council has decided to extend the contract until 2032, bringing the total value to £66.5m for the full 10 years.

The original contract allowed for an extension of up to 10 years, but with local government reorganisation and devolution 'on the horizon', the council said that this extension would need to allow for 'novation or early termination', which WSP has agreed to.

West Sussex, along with Cambridge and Peterborough, is currently awaiting a decision on whether its reorganisation will be taken forward.

Since the start of the current contract up to May this year, WSP supported 442 projects, generating nearly £3m in social value through the National TOMs framework. The projects included the Lyminster Bypass, A29 realignment and A259 Bognor Regis to Littlehampton corridor improvements.

Rachel Skinner, managing director for transport and mobility at WSP UK & Ireland, said: ‘We're proud to continue our long-standing partnership with West Sussex County Council. By combining trusted technical advice with local knowledge and practical delivery support, we can continue to help connect communities, support economic growth and enable more sustainable travel for people across West Sussex.'
