Former ADEPT engineering board chair Mark Stevens has announced that he has started a new role as a principal consultant at top transport research body, TRL.
Mr Stevens is a highly respected, leading figure in the local highways sector, with over 40 years of experience.
He played a major role in the council directors' body ADEPT, has been a member of the Future Highways Research Group and was awarded the 2020 CIHT Transportation Professional of the Year.
Across his local government career, Mr Stevens held a series of director-level positions in various councils, including director of resident experience and assistant director of direct services at Haringey Council and assistant director for operational highways at Suffolk County Council.
Making the announcement on LinkedIn, Mr Stevens said: 'Absolutely chuffed to announce that I have started in a new role today. A totally different challenge but an opportunity for me to renew old acquaintances and establish new ones too, helping to bring improvement to the highways and transport sectors.'
Mr Stevens also played a key role in supporting the highways sector through COVID, helping draw up guidance that allowed teams to work on the roads, while observing safety protocols to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
