Heidi Alexander is one of four secretaries of state who managed to retain their position following new prime minister Andy Burnham's cabinet reshuffle.
With four ministers moved to different positions and a further seven removed from the cabinet entirely, the Department for Transport (DfT) appears to have escaped unscathed so far, although a spokesperson for the department did state that junior ministerial appointments across government are yet to be confirmed.
Other departments that have been unaffected so far are the Home Office and the Department for Work and Pensions. Douglas Alexander has also remained the secretary of state for Scotland.
Given that the remaining 13 positions have been reappointed, this seems to be an indication that Mr Burnham is satisfied with the work being carried out by the DfT.
This year has already seen the publication of the third Road Investment Strategy (RIS 3), the first road safety strategy in a decade, and the Better Connected strategy for integrated transport.
