James Bird has left his role as group head of health, safety and wellbeing at Kier Group to become HSEQ director at Tarmac.

After 12 years with the company – first starting as a health, safety and environment manager in 2014 – he has worked his way up through seven roles at Kier, with more recent titles including head of strategic risk and behavioural strategy and senior SHE manager – strategic risk and behavioural safety.

Prior to starting at Kier, he also worked at Arcsure and Golden Orb Solutions as a health and safety manager and traffic safety and control officer, respectively.

Announcing the move on LinkedIn, Mr Bird said: ‘So the realisation hits, after more than 12 years at Kier Group, my time is at an end, with a final team meeting and a last site visit to the fantastic HMP Lancaster Farms Prison.

‘There are so many people here that I have met along the journey from LoHAC to Highways, Transportation and then Kier Group, that have influenced and helped me. It would be unfair to make any individual mention, but it's a big thank you to all and I wish you every future success.

'From my favourite book on the all blacks - [Legacy: What the All Blacks Can Teach Us about the Business of Life]  - I hope I've left the "shirt" in a better place for the next person to pick up and build greater things from.'
