National Highways has appointed Vivek Chaudhri as its new non-executive director, replacing Janette Beinart, who has stood down at the end of seven years on the board.

Having served as a non-executive director in both public and private sector organisations – such as East London NHS Foundation Trust and Queen Victoria NHS Hospital Trust – he brings extensive experience in operating at vice president and senior vice president levels.

Mr Chaudhri is also the co-founder of the Global Artificial Intelligence Leaders (GAIL) Network.

‘I understand the level of challenges and cultural change National Highways will face over the coming years as the use of technology becomes more prevalent. I hope I can add real value to the delivery of the organisation's purpose thanks to my years spent working in digital, data and artificial intelligence. I am looking forward to joining the team at my first Board meeting on March 31,' he said.

Chair of the board, Gareth Rhys Williams, said: ‘Vivek has a wide range of technical knowledge and extensive experience in cyber and operations. He has a strong customer and delivery focus, so is the perfect fit for our Board.

‘I would like to thank Janette Beinart for her commitment and dedication to National Highways over the years, including acting as interim Chair prior to my tenure starting. We will miss working with her.'

As a board member, Mr Chaudhri will sit on the nominations committee, remuneration committee and the safety committee.
