Balfour Beatty has appointed Kay Slade as managing director of its UK regional civils business.

Coming into effect this month, Ms Slade will take over from the current interim MD, Mark Arrandale, who has been in this role since October 2025 and will return to his position as finance director.

A qualified solicitor specialising in major projects, construction and engineering, Ms Slade has been with Balfour Beatty for four years, first starting as managing counsel and then later taking on the role of area director for the company's UK Regional Civils business in March 2024.

Before joining the company, Ms Slade worked at Costain for six years in both legal and corporate roles, including divisional legal lead for natural resources, consultancy and digital and head of corporate activity.

The company credits Ms Slade as being ‘instrumental' in reshaping its UK regional civils business in the North West of England, stating that she helped consolidate the business's footprint, enhance operational performance and oversaw the delivery of successful projects in the transport, flood and coastal markets.

Nick Crossfield, divisional CEO of Balfour Beatty's UK Construction Services business, said: ‘Kay is an outstanding leader whose deep industry expertise and proven record of delivery speak for themselves. I am delighted she has agreed to take the helm as Managing Director as we look ahead to a strong pipeline of opportunities and continue to deliver for our customers.'

Ms Slade added: ‘I am honoured to assume this role and to lead such a highly skilled and dedicated team whose work consistently delivers meaningful and lasting benefits for the communities we serve. Having joined Balfour Beatty as Managing Counsel four years ago, progressing to Managing Director reflects both the breadth of opportunity available and the company's strong commitment to developing talent and supporting career growth.'
