Mark Saunders has been appointed the programme director for highways and streets in the UK for AECOM.

Mr Saunders has spent the past decade at AECOM, starting as an associate director in 2016 and working his way through roles including associate director, regional director and streets director for the South East.

Before joining the company, he had 14 years' experience in the sector working with Mouchel (now part of WSP Global), the historic British engineering consultancy that helped create landmarks such as the Battersea Power Station cooling towers, Reading Bridge and the Royal Liver Building in Liverpool.

His career there began in 2002 as an engineer, before he moved into roles such as senior highway engineer and principal engineer, during which he was seconded to Highways England (now National Highways) as a project manager.
