Apple has bought self-driving startup Drive.ai, that was supposedly closing its doors and laying off all of its staff.
Drive.ai was founded in 2015 by machine learning researchers from Stanford University and had been running an autonomous ride-hailing shuttle service in Texas.
The Verge reports that the deal could have resulted in dozens of Drive.ai engineers joining Apple’s secretive Project Titan.
Apple also purchased the company’s assets, including its autonomous cars, reports The Verge.
The purchase price has not been disclosed.
