Traffic technology supplier Siemens has hosted the latest Women in ITS interest group meeting at its offices and manufacturing centre in Poole, Dorset, focusing on diversity in industry.The event was free-of-charge and open to all ITS (UK) members, ITS practitioners and stakeholders and included a technical visit and tour of the company's manufacturing and engineering facilities, and new service operations centre.As part of the day's programme, a group of local students joined a networking lunch followed by a seminar with key speakers from industry and an open debate to explore views on transport, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) careers and workforce diversity.According to ITS (UK) Secretary General, Jennie Martin, women make excellent engineers and ITS practioners. 'Women in ITS aims to promote diversity in industry and encourage more women to consider a career in transport management and engineering by demonstrating the success of others who currently work in ITS at Siemens and across the ITS industry in the UK ', she said.ITS (UK) is the national association for the promotion of Intelligent Transport Systems, drawing together active players and interested parties, by means of targeted Interest Groups, Task Forces and others to lead the debate about and knowledge of ITS deployment.
