National Highways is seeking to appoint suppliers to carry out technical surveys and testing on its structures across six areas of the country.
The contract notice gives the total value of the procurement as £7.5m and states that the contract will be divided into six lots, with one supplier appointed to each.
Although suppliers can bid for all lots, a maximum of two lots will be awarded to any one tenderer. The geographical areas covered by the lots are: Yorkshire and the North East; the Midlands; the North West; the South East; the South West and the East.
National Highways' recent initial report notes that 72% of its structures will be over 45 years old by 2025.
It states: ‘Our view is that there is a need for a growing renewals programme, if we are to maintain current performance of the network, responding to our ageing assets which are becoming more complex to manage and in response to historical deferred works.’
