A9 bridge works completed early

Refurbishment of the A9 Crieff Road bridge in Scotland has been completed two weeks ahead of schedule.

Transport Minister Keith Brown (pictured) has thanked road users for their patience during the £600,000 project, which has seen a number of safety improvements including concrete repairs to the central pier as well as the replacement of the existing bridge deck support bearings.

Favourable weather conditions and efficient construction methods mean that all traffic restrictions have been removed from the surrounding routes twelve days earlier than planned.

Brown said: “The A9 is one of Scotland’s most important strategic routes, linking the Highlands to the Central Belt, and the refurbishment of the Crieff bridge will benefit those using this busy route as well as the near-by A85.

“It is even better news that this major project has finished ahead of schedule.  All traffic restrictions have now been lifted and the local community can get back to normal business earlier than anticipated.

“I would like to thank them for their patience during the work, which will keep the bridge in good condition for years to come.”

Andy Thompson from BEAR Scotland added: “The A9 and the A85 are both important trunk roads and these strengthening and refurbishment works will ensure the continued safe use of Crieff Road bridge.

“The close cooperation between Transport Scotland, BEAR Scotland and the contractor, John Graham Construction, has ensured that the works were completed as soon as possible.”
