Surrey County Council has awarded GRAHAM the contract to deliver critical improvements to the A320 north of Woking.
The project, which is funded with £41.8m from Homes England’s Housing Infrastructure Fund, aims to increase capacity and improve traffic flow on the stretch of road between Chertsey and Ottershaw, ‘unlocking future housing developments' across the Runnymede district.
It consists of major upgrades to four key junctions and two road connections and will introduce safety and accessibility enhancements, including wider footpaths and cycleways, enhanced pedestrian crossing points and better access to public transport.
The contract has been awarded under the GEN 5 Southern Highways and Civils Framework.
Gareth McLaverty, project director at GRAHAM, said: ‘GRAHAM is delighted to be delivering this transformative scheme on behalf of Surrey County Council and Runnymede Borough Council.
‘The A320 North of Woking project is a vital infrastructure investment that will not only improve safety and traffic flow but also unlock thousands of much-needed new homes in the region.’
Natalie Bramhall, Surrey’s cabinet member for property, waste and infrastructure, said: ‘Those who drive on the A320 regularly will appreciate how busy this road is and how vital these improvements are to residents and businesses right along this key route.
‘I am really pleased we have secured this contract with GRAHAM, and we can begin to deliver this long-awaited scheme.'
The council’s webpage for the scheme states that enabling works this month will be followed by phase one of the main works from mid-March, with phase one expected to be complete in the late summer and the next phase of works beginning in the autumn.
The webpage does not give a completion date for the scheme but states that there will be roadworks on the A320 between Chertsey and Ottershaw from early 2025 until 2026.
