Lafarge Tarmac and Owen Pugh join forces to deliver bypass scheme

Lafarge Tarmac will supply 180,000 tonnes of construction aggregates to be used in the earthworks for the Morpeth Northern Bypass.

Owen Pugh, which has the project’s earthworks subcontract, has appointed Lafarge Tarmac in a deal worth £2.5 million.

In turn, Lafarge has enlisted Owen Pugh & Co to transport the materials between its quarry in Howick, Northumberland, to the project site.

As part of the new partnership a team of 10 Owen Pugh hauliers have relocated to a remote operating base at Lafarge Tarmac’s quarry and two members of staff have been promoted to supervisor status to manage the scheme over the next 12 months.

“The project, which is in addition to the main earthworks scheme being undertaken by Owen Pugh Contracts, is progressing well as a result of a lengthy pre-planning process and at this stage we’re well positioned to complete work ahead of schedule.”
