Lafarge Tarmac wins £480m highways deal

Lafarge Tarmac has secured a highways contract with Norfolk County Council worth up to £480 million.

Valued at up to £40 million per annum, the contract will run for 10 years, with an option for a two-year extension. Lafarge Tarmac will commence work for Norfolk in April 2014.

The deal will see the company deliver highway surfacing, bridge and structures maintenance, gully cleansing, grass cutting, patching, surface dressing, and integrated transport schemes across the county.

The company already has extensive infrastructure within Norfolk which includes over 10 asphalt plants, railheads and quarries.

The contract win follows Lafarge Tarmac’s recent contract awards from Halton and Warrington Borough Councils, and Nottinghamshire County Council. The company will use its experience of working on strategic contracts with local authorities across the UK to deliver innovation, improvements and value for Norfolk’s road network.

It was Lafarge Tarmac's ability to drive down costs while ensuring consistently high quality that won the day. The contract has the potential to save Norfolk's taxpayers up to £4.4m a year, and the use of modern techniques and commitment to innovation that will ensure value for money at a time when road budgets are under great pressure.”
