The Department for Transport (DfT) has announced that its plug-in van grant to reduce the cost of switching to electric fleet will now run for a further year until 2027.
However, the DfT stated that the discount levels for the 2026 to 2027 financial year are yet to be decided but are expected to be announced ‘in due course’. This is the scheme's latest extension after originally launching in 2012.
Currently, the grant offers discounts up to £2,500 on 18 eligible small vans, £5,000 for 55 models of large vans, £16,000 for six small truck models and £25,000 for 23 large trucks.
These discounts are provided by the seller, with the discount being included in the purchase price, similarly to the recently launched £650m Electric Car Grant.
Ms Greenwood said: ‘Extending these grants is another decisive step to power Britain’s transition to cleaner transport while backing the industries that keep our economy moving, driving new investment in EVs and helping businesses cut costs and expand.
‘Every EV on our roads means healthier communities and new economic opportunities across the country, which is why grants like these are crucial to both accelerating that transition and building a resilient, competitive economy.’
