Pothole repairs being carried out in Swansea

Swansea Council has fixed more than 3,500 potholes and other road defects this year.


The council's PATCH (Priority Action for Community Highways) team and other specialist road repair staff spend an intensive week in each Swansea community from mid-April to the end of December every year.

The team has already visited 17 communities so far this year, including St Thomas, Townhill and Morriston. They were out and about in Sketty last week and will be visiting communities including Pennard, Gorseinon and Penyrheol by the end of August.

Cllr Mark Thomas, cabinet member for environment and transportation, said: "It's often the type of work that goes unseen by many thousands of people, but our road repair staff do a great job every day to help keep the city moving. Despite the well-documented financial challenges we're facing, we know how important the condition of our roads is for residents, so we'll continue to heavily invest in our road network.

"Our inspectors cover a huge distance every day in their drive to spot repairs that need carrying out, but they can't be everywhere at once, which is why we'd ask residents to get in touch with us if they see a road defect they feel needs to be addressed. The public can rest assured that any report we receive will be inspected and logged for repair according to its priority.
"Our PATCH team is now well into its programme for 2015. Many communities have already benefited from an intensive week of road repairs, but many more will be following suit by the end of the year. The work of our road repair teams helps catch up on the damage that's inevitably inflicted on our roads over the cold and wet winter months."
