Ringway to create new local jobs

02/09/2013 | HIGHWAYS REPORTERS

Highways contractor Ringway is set to create a number of new job opportunities in Cheshire West and Chester.

The company looks after the highway network on behalf of Cheshire West and Chester Council and wants to ensure that ongoing investment is delivered through a local workforce.

Ringway is creating 21 jobs in total. The 17 permanent roadworker positions and four roadworker apprenticeships will be based out of Ringway’s two borough offices at Guilden Sutton in Chester and Winsford.

Those working in the new roles will carry out footway reconstruction, kerb laying, minor carriageway patching repairs and slab and drainage repairs, among other key tasks. The new recruits will be part of the current in-house team already working together safely to improve the road and footway network in Cheshire West and Chester.

Cheshire West and Chester’s executive member for localities, councillor Lynn Riley, said: “Cheshire West and Chester Council is dedicated to re-investing in the economy and improving our highways networks throughout the borough is a vital component to this.

“The news that Ringway are to not only increase their workforce but offer the role to local people is great news. The apprenticeship scheme will also give people the opportunity to learn new skills and get qualifications at the same time - bringing both a boost to the local area and having a huge impact on the future careers of the apprentices.”

Four new roadworkers apprentices will have the opportunity to be accepted onto Ringway’s national apprenticeship scheme which starts in early September. As well as attending college for the two years of the scheme, the apprentices will be trained and developed within the workforce to achieve a Diploma and Level 2 NVQ in highways maintenance operations.

A permanent role will be offered at the end of the scheme, subject to completing the course and gaining the qualifications.

Kevan Rudd, Ringway Cheshire West and Cheshire divisional manager, added: “Ringway prides itself on employing local people and I am pleased that we are able to not just invest in the present, but also in the future, through our apprenticeship scheme.”
