Work on A22 finished early

Work on resurfacing the A22 dual carriageway in Eastbourne has been completed more than three weeks ahead of schedule.

The A22 Golden Jubilee Way fully reopened on 21 May after the work was completed in half the seven-week period scheduled for the job.

East Sussex County Council said the work carried out by Colas, would be expected to last for 10 years without the need for major repairs.

Graham Martin, associate director (Colas), said: “I am pleased that Colas was able to successfully complete these works well within programme. Colas aim to provide a complete solution and the fact that this project finished early shows that we are organised, dedicated and focused.

“East Sussex County Council (ESCC) also had the benefit of receiving value engineering solutions based on the use of our own research and development capabilities. We are delighted to have had the opportunity to deliver highway services for ESCC in addition to the existing electrical and mechanical services we already supply."

The work on the A22 between its junctions with Dittons Road and Willingdon Drove, began at the end of last month, with the northbound and southbound carriageways resurfaced in turn.

The project is part of an investment by the council of more than £50 million to improve hundreds of roads across the county over the next two years.
