AtkinsRéalis, Jacobs, Mott MacDonald and Pell Frischmann have been appointed to a Birmingham City Council highways and infrastructure framework, which is expected to produce spending of £400m over the next eight years.
The pipeline of work includes projects worth up to £240m for Birmingham City Council itself, with the balance of spending expected to come from other public bodies across the East and West Midlands via access agreements to the framework.
The award is currently in a standstill phase until 14 May, after which – subject to any challenges – contracts will be issued to the successful suppliers and the framework will go live.
Birmingham City Council will not procure specialist sub-lots on this framework. Instead, this work will be procured through the four successful consultants via their own supply chains.
The council has also stipulated that a minimum of 20% of all services must be subcontracted out to small-to-medium (SME) sized enterprises.
Suppliers must be on the Central Digital Platform and NEC4 terms and conditions will be used for contracts on the framework, which will run from 1 June 2026 to 31 May 2034.
The framework was put out to tender last October, with the council attracting eight bids.
