Kent County Council has awarded a £10.8m contract for the widening of the A249 Bearsted Road to Breheny Civil Engineering.
The scheme, which is expected to take 13 months, involves widening Bearsted Road in Maidstone to provide a four-lane dual carriageway, as well as a shared footway/cycleway on the southern side of the road between the crematorium and New Cut Road.
It also involves signalising the 'Next' roundabout, enlarging and signalising the New Cut (KIMs) roundabout and introducing alternative access and service roads to the Newnham Court Shopping Village.
Ipswich-based contractor Breheny Civil Engineering was one of three tenders that were submitted for this contract.
