BUKO Group has launched a UK digital service under its traffic and safety division, integrating digital intelligence with physical traffic management controls to offer 'a smarter, more responsive way to manage road networks'.
Following successful launches in the Netherlands and Sweden, the system provides a suite of tools structured into two distinct offerings: essential services and tailor-made services.
'Essential services provide foundational tools to improve safety and communication, comprising digital closures, digital announcements, and digital roadworks,' the company said in a press statement, detailing the following examples:
- Digital closures supplement physical closures by ensuring navigation systems from Google, Apple, TomTom, and Waze correctly route drivers away from disruptions. This reaches nearly 80% of road users, driving a 20% reduction in traffic around work zones and cutting local CO2 emissions by 11%.
- Digital announcements utilise social media to inform up to 90% of residents and commuters in the immediate vicinity about upcoming works, significantly reducing public complaints and inconvenience.
- Digital roadworks integrate directly into major navigation platforms to provide in-vehicle audio alerts. Evidence indicates these alerts improve driver compliance with work zone speed limits by up to 15, creating %a much safer working environment for road workers.
Generally targeted at larger, more complex infrastructure developments, BUKO's bespoke tailor-made services equip 'project managers with a digital assistant, hyper-personalised digital communications, and digital information beacons to handle intricate traffic flows and extensive stakeholder management requirements'.
Mark Gallimore, managing director of BUKO Traffic and Safety, said: 'The introduction of BUKO Digital is a significant milestone that has the potential to revolutionise traffic management in the UK,' said Mark, managing director of BUKO Traffic & Safety.
'By complementing traditional traffic management with digital innovation, we are equipping customers with a smarter, more responsive way to manage road networks. This launch ensures we deliver unprecedented levels of safety, efficiency, and environmental sustainability for both our clients and the public.'
