IT and business consulting firm CGI has extended its partnership with National Highways with a five year £21m contract to support the delivery of data architecture and wider services.
Running from 16 July 2025 until 30 June 2030, the contract will see CGI work with the strategic road authority to ‘strengthen the organisation's data foundations' and provide more efficient, ‘user-focussed services', including real-time information on road closures and incidents shared through ‘popular navigation platforms'.
It will also continue to enhance National Highways' digital platform to ensure it meets the ‘evolving needs' of road users, stakeholders and front-line teams.
With data assets collated by National Highways valued at over £60bn, CGI states that this information holds ‘immense potential' to improve journeys, support critical services and reduce disruption on the nation's trunk road network.
Adam Locker, head of data architecture and engineering at National Highways, said: ‘Our data is one of our most valuable assets and plays a crucial role in how we operate and improve the network. This next phase will help us use our operational data in a more meaningful and timely way, supporting better decision-making and helping us share useful information with drivers. Ultimately, we want to make journeys easier and ensure our network continues to meet the needs of road users.'
Kevin O'Neill, senior vice-president and business unit leader at CGI, added: ‘Throughout England, more than four million journeys across 4,500 miles of motorways and major roads take place every day. With CGI helping to combine and improve access to disparate data sources, National Highways can significantly enhance the road experience, minimising disruption across the entire network and modernising a vital part of our transport ecosystem.'
