The London Borough of Bromley has extended the tender deadline for its £85m highways maintenance contract.
Originally due on 16 January, the deadline for submitting a tender has now been extended until 2 February. The council then expects to announce the successful supplier on 20 March this year.
Running from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2032 with possible extension to 30 June 2036, the 10-year contract will cover maintenance work on the 1,370km of footways, 842km of carriageway and over 28,000 streetlights. It is expected to be split into two lots:
- Lot 1 - Major works – valued up to £56.4m
- Lot 2 - Minor works - £28.8m
Lot 1 will include work ranging from planned maintenance and improvements of carriageways and footways to in- and out-of-hours emergency response to incidents involving street lighting and illuminated street furniture.
Lot 2 will cover several different works, including routine maintenance of carriageways and footways, surface water drainage installation and provision, maintenance and removal of road markings.
To be considered for this contract, tenderers must have a minimum yearly turnover of at least £9.4m for Lot 1 (Major Works) and £4.8m for Lot 2 (Minor Works). To be awarded both contracts, the tenderer must have a minimum yearly turnover of £14.2m. If not, the council states that the supplier would ‘only be successful in the highest valued lot where it satisfies the minimum turnover requirement'.
