Nominations and table bookings are now open for the inaugural Highways Champions Awards on 4 November in London - an exciting new event celebrating the individuals who have gone above and beyond, from the frontline to the boardroom and everything in between
Brought to you by Highways Magazine and supported by National Highways and the Welsh and Scottish Governments, as well as top professional bodies like the Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE) and ADEPT (see full steering group list below), this is the perfect opportunity to recognise members of your team and boost morale in front of the entire sector, celebrating the exceptional qualities that make your organisation and our industry such a success.
The awards offer a range of categories for entry, from individual disciplines such as safety, innovation and process change awards, to awards that will soon become pillars of the sector: Highways Champions Medals, Long Service Medals, Rising Star Medals and the Highways Fellowship Award.
This means that whether you want to recognise an exceptional engineer, top manager or loyal frontline worker, the Highways Champions Awards has the perfect stage for you.
Helen Blood, owner of leading highways communications company Boundary Marketing, who is chairing the steering group for the event, said: 'I'm honoured to be asked to chair the steering committee for the new Highways Champions Awards. Recognising the good work our industry does and those that go above and beyond across the sector is so important on so many levels.'
Mel Clarke OBE, director of health, safety and wellbeing at National Highways, said: 'At the heart of it all, our mission is to connect the country but that can't happen without the hard work and dedication of the thousands of people who keep the country moving. The people who are the backbone of our sector. It's important for all of us to invest in recognising our most effective, loyal and exceptional people.'
Highways Magazine's publisher, Richard Castle, said: 'With the never-ending rise in reports of roadworker abuse and site incursions, coupled with a new focus on the sector through the Government's new Road Safety Strategy, there has never been a more important time to launch these awards.
'We've been working on the plans for the Highways Champions Awards for some months and the universally positive feedback and support the whole team has had from the UK road sector is exceptional. I'm proud that Highways Magazine, the industry's leading voice and trusted partner, will be celebrating those who go above and beyond, the bravest and the best, the innovators and the thinkers, at a gala ceremony this November. Do nominate your key people today; you have until 12 June to get those entries in.'
The awards are a prestigious afternoon event at InterContinental Park Lane hotel, but with a more relaxed lounge suit dress code, making this a one-of-a-kind opportunity to gather with colleagues across your organisation as well as network with new contacts in a friendly, accessible atmosphere.
