Balfour Beatty is set to start work next month on the £34.9m Westerhill Development Road project (WDR) for East Dunbartonshire Council in Scotland.

The WDR will connect junction 2 of the M80 north of Glasgow to the A803 between Bishopbriggs and Kirkintilloch with a 2-km section of highway linking a roundabout at Lochgrog with Crosshill Road.

Council leader Gordan Low said: 'The WDR will help to improve transport links, unlock key business sites, create employment opportunities and reduce congestion.'

Consultant SWECO is also working on the project, which is the fifth and final phase of what was previously referred to as the Bishopbriggs Relief Road and forms part of the wider £46.8m City Deal Place and Growth Programme in East Dunbartonshire.
