Mitie Cleaning & Environmental Services has been awarded a near £42m infrastructure cleaning contract by West Midlands Combined Authority.
The contract came into effect on 1 July and has an initial run until 31 March 2031, but it also allows for two extensions of three years each as well as a single one-year extension, which would bring the final end date to 31 March 2036 for a nearly decade-long contract.
West Midlands Combined Authority has highlighted five ‘key areas' covered by the contract:
- Highway infrastructure cleaning
- Bus station cleaning
- Park and ride cleaning
- Timetable maintenance
- Information placement
Under the agreement, Mitie are expected to provide Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) with ‘a number of dedicated operatives and vehicles, complete with a suitable smart mobile communication system that is compatible with TfWM's asset management IT system'.
