National Highways has awarded a  a £5.4m incursion alarm contract intended to enhance the safety of traffic officers and road workers.

The contract will see Race Technology provide 400 vehicle-mounted radar units along with ‘associated wearable devices', software and support services.

These devices will then detect approaching vehicles and warn users when a potential collision is detected.

National Highways also expects the company to provide training for users.

The five-year contract will run from 31 July 2026 until 30 July 2029, with a possible extension until 31 July 2031.

This contract was directly awarded under Schedule 5, paragraph 5 of the Procurement Act 2023, as National Highways stated that Race Technology is the only company capable of delivering the required devices.
